South Carolina

South Carolina known for its shoreline of subtropical beaches and marshlike sea islands, is a southeastern state in U.S.Its oldest city is Coastal Charleston which is defined by Old South plantations, pastel-colored houses,  and Fort Sumter, where the Civil War’s opening shots were fired. The Grand Strand which is to the north is  a roughly 60-mile stretch of beachfront known for the vacation town Myrtle Beach and the golf courses.

With many historic landmarks including Founding Father Thomas Jefferson’s iconic Charlottesville plantation, Monticello, it is to be known as the oldest of the 13 original colonies. Its living-history museums reenacting Colonial and Revolutionary-era life are Colonial Williamsburg and the Jamestown Settlement. Richmond, among the country's oldest cities, is its capital.
